Top Five Songs Released This Summer You Should Add To Your Playlists

With the summer halfway through, a substantial amount of high quality music has been released. Artists such as Curren$y, Big K.R.I.T., Chris Brown, and Frank Ocean have released well received albums, which have made their way to the top of the Billboard charts at one time or another. While these full length projects have received all the attention, let’s not forget about some of the singles that have propelled them!

Below is a list of five songs that have been released this summer and deserve a spot on one of your playlists!

 

French Montana F/ Rick Ross, Drake & Lil Wayne – “Pop That” - The Bad Boy signee French Montana may have the biggest hit of the summer on his hands. “Pop That” is a star studded track featuring Rick Ross, Drake and Lil Wayne. Featuring a well utilized sample from 2 Live Crew’s explicit “Pop That Pussy,” the Excuse My French lead single is sure to get the party going!

Curren$y F/ Young Jeezy & Lil Wayne – “Jet Life (Remix)” - The original version of this track featured Wiz Khalifa and appeared on Curren$y’s The Stoned Immaculate album. Despite a subpar verse by Khalifa, “Jet Life” was still a solid song. But, with the recent additions of Young Jeezy and Lil Wayne on the remix, it makes it  one of top released singles of the summer. With a chilled out beat, laid back lyrics and a smooth hook by Big K.R.I.T., this is perfect to add to your poker hip hop playlist.

Maybach Music Group F/ Kendrick Lamar – “Power Circle” - Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group brand made a statement with the intro track for their group compilation, Self Made Vol. 2. With verses by MMG’s five front-men, Ross, Meek Mill, Wale, Stalley, and Gunplay as well as the incredible Kendrick Lamar, “Power Circle” is a song for those true hip hop fans that value lyricism. Verse to verse, this track is consistent with every rhymer delivering some of his best bars. Add “Power Circle” to any playlist that features the likes of Nas, Jay Z, Eminem and Jadakiss.

Frank Ocean – “SWEET Life” – Summer 2012 may be one that Frank Ocean never forgets. The talented Odd Future member recently announced that he was bi-sexual, stirring up the hip hop community. With all attention on his sexuality, Ocean shifted the focus back to music  with ”SWEET Life,” a track that appears on his channel ORANGE album. The Pharell produced track has a real summer feel to it with Ocean singing about the privilege’s of his superstar life. This track along with some new Usher or Chris Brown will solidify your R&B playlist

DJ Drama F/ 2 Chainz, Meek Mill & Jeremih – “My Moment” – DJ Drama has a knack for putting hits together. Just take a listen to “Oh My” and “We In This.” ”My Moment” follows the same formula as Drama brings two of the most buzzed about rappers in 2 Chainz and Meek Mill with R&B singer Jeremih on a certified hit! Backed by quality production by T-Minus, 2 Chainz and Mill reminisce on their hard times. This is sure to get you motivated to take the next big step! Throw it on your workout playlist!
